Holidays and Traditions
Ingathering Water CeremonyThe Sunday after Labor Day the congregation celebrates the beginning of the church year, even though the congregation gathers throughout the calendar year, with a water ritual. Members and friends bring a small container of water to pour into a common bowl signifying that many individuals come together to create the whole congregation. |
Christmas Eve ServiceOn Christmas Eve the congregation gathers for an evening of traditional Biblical lessons, carols, modern interpretive poetry, and candle lighting, as we share the story of Jesus's birth and the miracle of returning life in the dead of winter.

Flower CommunionIn June the congregation celebrates the arrival of summer with a Flower Communion. This ritual celebrates beauty, human uniqueness, diversity, and community. Originally created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Norbert Capek of Prague, Czechoslovakia, the Flower Ceremony was introduced to the United States by Rev. Maya Capek, Norbert's widow. In this ceremony, everyone in the congregation brings a flower. Each person places a flower on the altar or in a shared vase. The congregation and minister bless the flowers, and they're redistributed. Each person brings home a different flower than the one they brought.
