SPIRITUAL DIRECTION WITH REV BAILEY - 2 SPOTS LEFT $150 (INCLUDES 3-50 MINUTE SESSIONS) “Spiritual Direction” is an ancient tradition that grows out of fourth-century Christianity. Despite its early Christian roots, spiritual direction is a small but growing trend among Unitarian Universalists. “A lot of Unitarian Universalists are really crying out for more of a connection to the spirit, and they don’t exactly know what to ask for,” says the Rev. Jade Angelica, a UU minister, spiritual director, and a founder of the Unitarian Universalist Spiritual Directors’ Network (UUSDN). “There is a growing hunger for spirituality and spiritual companioning in our culture, and UUs are no exception.” FYI: Fees for spiritual direction typically run on a sliding scale, up to $150 per 50-minute session. The future is now, dear friends. Our country and many places in the world continue to have major arguments and differences of opinion about faith values and the truth of one religious ideology over another. It is clear to me that the way forward is for people of good conscience to step into a more open understanding about religion and faith.
We Unitarian Universalists have a long practice of respecting multiple traditions. That openness to others goes back to the Transcendentalists in America and the Unitarians in Transylvania. Our congregations are filled with couples who come from different religious traditions. While this cooperation and acceptance is wonderful, I am convinced that it is not enough. We have entered into a new era where we have to do more than tolerate one another, more than appreciate one another, and even more than work together for compassion and justice in the public square . I believe that the future for humanity is in multifaith religious life. The spectrum of philosophical and theological variety is the spice of life and all of us can partake of the beautiful human offerings. Join us at UUCLV as we look forward and stay mindful of where we are today. The UUCLV congregation has eased back into in-person services with a hybrid system. So many of us are seeking to connect with the unseen force or forces that give shape and meaning to our lives. Because things like this aren’t easily measured, many in contemporary society don’t pay much attention to this aspect of our beings. This service and sermon hopes to open a dialogue here at UUCLV about nurturing your inner fire so that you may relate to yourself and the world around you in a new way.
Join us as we hopefully open a pathway to better living. The UUCLV congregation has eased back into in-person services with a hybrid system. Our Water Communion marks the traditional start of the congregational year, it is a time of ingathering, of coming back together after some of us have spent the summer away or traveling.
Let’s meet in person if possible? Let us mingle together the waters we've collected over the summer, as has been our tradition for so many years. If staying home is for you then have your water nearby and pour it forth as the service happens. Since so many people did not travel this summer, the water poured could be water from your facet or travels from a previous year. However it happens, let's gather the spirit. Let’s celebrate the fact that we are called to be together again. Let’s kick the season off with good cheer. Our time for gathering is here!
